CAPTCHA is working again! The problem was caused by a couple of stray CR/LFs in some include files..

As you may have noticed, the stream has been having problems lately. This is partly due to the fact that I switched from VMWare to VirtualBox to host the VM, and it seems VBox is somewhat less stable.

I also have determined that 99% of Weasel-related crashes are due to the bloaty stream software choking up when someone places a request. I have come up with a solution to fix this problem:

  • Basically, the streaming software has a built-in web server, and when you place requests on the website, it connects to this built-in server (on another machine) and places the request through that. The stream software then places the requested song (if valid) into a database queue. It is during this process that the stream software tends to lock up and/or crash.

I can skip the stream software altogether, and make the website put the songs directly into the database queue, and this would leave the stream software to do nothing but blindly follow the queue's contents and play them without question. This will have the added benefit of making things MUCH more stable.

All I have to do is create the new request script (and have IT handle all of the rules, like requests-per-5-minutes, same-artist-requesting-avoidance, etc..) Which will be soon. :)

Still haven't had a chance to fix the CAPTCHA. However, if you submit any forms (even if it fails CAPTCHA) it still gets logged and I will see your feedback anyway.

UPDATE: I may have temporarily fixed it by changing the guest VM's virtual memory settings. Still working on the new request script, though.. It will be much faster and more reliable.:)

Web-based chat is working now, just click on it in the menu above. Java is required. :)

**UPDATE 03/12**: Now you can request songs from the chat room! Simply type ".request <full or partial song name>" while in the chat room with WEASEL-1.

".search <full or partial song name>" also works.

I created a dinky little game, Weasel of Fortune. As far as I know there aren't any bugs, but I may have missed one or two.. Play it and try to be the top high score holding champion!

UPDATE: Ok, so it's not working yet. :)

I fixed the distorted volume levels on the Windows Media stream.

It is now possible to click on the column headings of the song lists in order to sort them the normal way (by name) or by ascending/descending request counts.

I'm currently working on translating the site into 51 other languages.. I am using Google Translate plus my moderate linguistics knowledge to do it. As such, if you are multilingual and happen to notice something that can be grammatically improved, please let me know and I'll fix it!

UPDATE 02/16/10: Okay, so all 51 languages is a bit ambitious. For now, I'm starting out with the more common ones: French, Spanish, German, Italian, and so on..

I just added 34 more songs to the playlist. ^_^
